The Art of Conversation in Marriage: Breaking the Silence

Broken chain, this is a symbol of breaking the silence

I had no idea what I was going to write when I sat down to write this blog post. My mind felt blank or whirling, but not at ease. This happens in marriage too!

Have you ever found yourself sitting down to talk with your spouse, only to realize you have no idea what to discuss? Whether your marriage is thriving or facing challenges, we all encounter moments when communication feels stuck. Connecting through conversation is crucial in any marriage – it's how we share the joys and navigate the difficulties together.

The Importance of Good Communication

Spending time with one another in conversation about the fun and exciting things in life is just as important as talking through the things that aren't going well. This is how we connect in marriage! We talk to one another with our voice, our bodies, our looks, our faces. Good communication is the key to keeping things going.

Overcoming Communication Blocks

Invest in a Box of Communication Cards

Invest in a box of communication cards! You can get the spicy ones, the couples edition, the family edition, etc. There are so many choices out there, but don't get overwhelmed. Take a look at my Amazon Store and you will find my favorites! (Amazon Store)

Create Your Own Conversation Starters

Create your own conversation starters. Each of you sit down with strips of paper and come up with 15 questions or topics you'd like to talk about. Put them in a bowl and choose one a night, and you have the whole month covered!

There is no perfect reason to miss out on creating connecting conversation with your spouse! I know that you can do this. Your marriage is worth it.

Overcoming Doubts and Fears

Okay, I hear some of you saying, "I would love that but my spouse won't be up for it. I just know they won't, and then I will be disappointed and let down all over again." Maybe, but maybe not. It can feel awkward at first to step into a space that is unfamiliar. Sure, but if you never try, then you will never know what their response would have been. It doesn't matter if you are the husband or the wife, you have the power to choose what you are going to put into your marriage! Grab a conversation card and say something like, "Hey, I got these cards, and so I wanted to do one with you. Here is the question..."

Most likely, you will get a response.

Satan Causes Fear

Don't let fear stand in your way. God did not create a spirit of fear within us. That is Satan, on the prowl, ready to stop you from connecting with your spouse. Satan is powerful, and we know that, but God is more powerful. You have the Holy Spirit within you, and that makes you more powerful than Satan. Don't let fear hold you back.

Take a stand for your marriage and begin connecting today. Connection can start so small and, in the end, create massive change!
